Matcha is a Japanese green tea powder that's said to be one of the highest quality teas. It’s loaded with antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, and other compounds that have been linked with many health benefits, including:1

  • Helping to protect against certain types of cancer

  • Helping to regulate blood sugar levels by improving insulin sensitivity

  • Enhancing the body’s sensitivity to leptin, the satiety hormone

  • Promoting brain health by enhancing cognitive function and reducing the formation of plaques in the brain (which can lead to Alzheimer’s disease)

  • Possibly protecting against infections from certain viral diseases... although more research is needed

Plus, it tastes yummy!

I’ve recently become obsessed with matcha lattes. I’m a huge fan of the Republic of Tea brand daily matcha powder. I’ve tried various varieties, and in my opinion, this one tastes the best.

Here’s my recipe:

  • 1 teaspoon of matcha green tea powder

  • ¾ teaspoon honey

  • 14-ish ounces of near-boiling water

  • 1/8 cup heated and frothed milk (I love the flavor of oat milk but sometimes I use 2% or skim dairy milk as well)

Instructions: add matcha powder and honey to your mug, add near-boiling water (be sure to leave a bit of room for your milk) and blend thoroughly. Heat and froth your milk separately and then gently scoop it on top of your mug of matcha.

Here’s my secret utensil—a hand-held, battery-operated frother. I use it to blend the matcha tea and then to froth the heated milk in a separate container.

Oh, and take note that matcha powder does contain caffeine, in case you’re sensitive to it.
